t was very comfortable sleeping weather overnight. We had only one window open, so there was no cross ventilation, but it was enough.
nother overcast day with a promise of eighty degrees later today. And later today it reached eighty four degrees under a mostly clear sky.

I made a tasty lentil based soup yesterday. I guess I’ll call it Cream of Lentil Soup.
(I’m not the measuring kind, so the measurements are all approximate.) ½ Cup lentils (washed and sorted) ½ Cup chopped carrots ½ Cup chopped celery ½ Cup finely chopped cabbage 1/8 Cup finely chopped chives (I’d have used onion if I were not allergic to the tasty things)
These were all combined in a medium sauce pan and covered with chicken stock to a depth of about a ½ inch. Seasoned with a couple generous pinches of cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil then cover and simmer at low temperature until carrots and lentils are soft. (about 30 minutes).
You want this to reduce the liquid but not run dry so watch and add more chicken stock if too dry or cook uncovered for a while if too wet. The goal is to end up with a thick creamy soup that still has some texture. Taste test and adjust seasonings.
Reserve about a fourth of the soup and purée the rest. Recombine the reserved and the puréed portions. Stir in a ½ cup of plain yogurt or sour cream and serve with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar.
This was enough to make two generous portions. Which was fine as a meal by itself. If you are serving as part of a larger meal, it would serve four.
ow that I’ve found this recipe again, I’m going to try it in the Instapot. I think I will grate the carrots rather than chop. Unfortunately, my onion allergy has gotten worse over the last decade, so I now avoid all of the plants in the onion family, like chives and scallions, shallots, and leeks. So far, I’ve not been bothered by garlic.
bout eight thirty, we received a hint of sunlight, one eye open and peeking from beneath that thick quilt of cloud. Still not satisfied after its long night of slumber, it snuggled back beneath the covers.
ver The Hill Gang has been meeting in this building since the 1970s. However, since the county gave control of the building to the city, it appears we are going to be moved. Many members are very unhappy about this proposed move.
