2020 January 30 Thursday

2020 January 30 Thursday in Liberty Hill, Texas

Now this is a true throw back Thursday. This is my Teddy bear. Teddy was given to me by my sister on the day I was born, 73 years ago. I’m sure he was much more plush 73 years ago. However, all of those years of fighting off cattle rustlers and space pirates has left him a little tattered and torn. In one horrible parachute accident, his head was knocked completely off from his body. Though my stitches would have made Doctor Frankenstein shudder, I was able to reattach the head all by myself. You may notice that Teddy is missing an arm. I’m not sure when that happened, it could had been when we were swinging through the trees Tarzan style. I have the arm and Ella thinks I need to sew it back in place. But I think it gives this old soldier a sense of mystery and drama. He has earned each battle scar.

loudy? Yep. Cloudy It began and cloudy it remained. See the “sunrise” photo below and compare it to the “sunset” photo and the end of this post.

gain the day was completely overcast. There are even a grew start drops of rain that landed on the windshield as we drove home this afternoon

made fry bread and eggs for breakfast.

also made a caramel apple pie with a crumb topping and walnut crust. I took it to the Over The Hill Gang* this morning and it all quickly disappeared,so I assume people liked it. If I make it again, I won’t bother with the walnut crust, as any taste it may have had, was completely overwhelmed by the filling. Also I would dice, rather than slice, the apples.

here were forty seven senior citizens in attendance today for lunch. Lunch was bbq brisket cooked by Tresa, who also happens to be Ella and my landlady at the Stocktank RV Park. The brisket was good. However, after having brisket at Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbeque yesterday, today’s meat was too dry for my liking.

adine and Lu played canasta with us. We had not taken our Fast Track game out of the truck from when we played yesterday at Grandies**. That was a good thing because Bill, Karen, Rex, and Blanca wanted to play it. Yes, we’ve addicted another couple to the game. It is amazingly simple to play and so difficult to win.

This was today’s sunset as seen from or “dining room” window. Not very interesting.

God bless and g’nite

2020 January 29 Wednesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

Sleep comes not early nor tarrys long at my bedside.

e’re looking forward to some goods passive solar to warm our home today.

ne of the troublesome things about waking early is that it takes duo looking for the sun to rise above the horizon. I’m awake, give me light!

Our Grandies** meeting lasted from nine until ten thirty. Normally we would have played canasta before heading home. Today, however, we brought or Fast Track game and played that instead. Bill, Karen, Rex, Ella and I played one game before Ella and I had to leave.

We took a little road trip this afternoon.

Arik, my oldest son, took us to a barbeque place in Pfluggerville Texas. Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbeque is not a fancy place at all. It is located in a small stripmall behind a gas station.

wanted to take a picture of the Traditional BBQ Sandwich. However, it was to darn good to put down for the photo. It was a true melt-in-your-mouth-and-4-napkins kind of sandwich.

e had choir practice tonight. We often practice in the chapel which was the the original church building on this property. It was constructed 150 years ago.

his sunset photo was actually taken before we left for for practice. That means that the sun had set before I took the above photo of the chapel. But the camera auto adjusted for the low light and made it much brighter than it truly was.

his was the moon and Venus that were shining so brightly when we came out of choir practice.

God bless and g’nite

2020 January 28 Tuesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

loudy isn’t quite right. It is foggy. It rained overnight, not much, but enough to leave some puddles. I believe the fog is due to the rain not removing all of the moisture from the air.

ith the clouds and the fog in the air, there was no sunrise today.

ight around ten o’clock the sun began playing peek-a-boo. It would show through for a few minutes and then crawl back under the blanket of clouds.

Today we went to the senior center in Leander for lunch. It is really sad to see it under used. It used to be so busy that occasionally they had to turn people away because there wasn’t enough room. Today there were only five including Ella and me. If It weren’t for the fact that the Meals On Wheels and Head Start lunches are prepared here, this facility would probably be closed down.

argarita’s, a local restaurant, was helping with a fundraiser for our church’s restoration of the 150 year old chapel. By presenting a coupon, the restaurant is donating 20% of the bill to the fund. Tonight only and from 4 to 9. Not surprising that, a lot of our friends were there tonight.

‘m having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep.

e had no heat on over night so it was sixty degrees inside when I got out of bed. I started a space heater but when I turned the convection oven on, it tripped a circuit breaker. Sho I turned the heater off until the biscuits were baked and the coffee was perked.

thought that the sun was going to burn through the fog or haze.

owever the foggy haze or hazy fog was too thick after all. The further east we drove this morning, the hazier it became.

here weren’t many people at the Georgetown senior center today. Maybe the fog kept them away. We arrived later than usual and left as soon as the meal was done.

he sky cleared about noon and stayed clear until sunset.

God bless and g’nite

2020 January 25 Saturday in Liberty Hill, Texas

e had no alarms set for today because we had no place to go. Nowhere to go and all day to get there. It made for a nice day of rest.

he clouds parted for a short time between ten and two. After that, the sky became completely overcast. For a while I thought it might rain even though none was forecast.

find that I am enjoying the Hum driving reports much more than I thought I would. I find the “Avg Speed” of 28 mph most amusing because nearly everywhere I drive the speed limit is between 55 and 65 mph. However, once you factor in the time spent at traffic lights, stop signs, and parking lots it lowers the average considerably.

No sunset. No photo.

God bless and g’nite

Mister and Missus Claus riding on the back of a Singer automobile, December 30, 2013

slept for over eight hours last night! However, I feel far from rested. I had lots of strange dreams. I remember riding in a taxi that was a school bus. And even within the dream that seemed strange.

he haze is due to light amounts of residual smoke from seasonal fires across the South Central and Southeast U.S. (including in Texas). And light amounts of suspended blowing dust generated the previous day over Texas during the early morning hours. .

Not a beautiful sunrise.

orty three at the Over The Hill Gang* today. Ella had to at stop at the doctors on the way home for a blood draw. This was a redo because something had gone wrong with the previous test.

Sunset at Stocktank RV Park.

o sunrise today and therefore no sunrise photo. Did you notice the predicted high was only four degree warmer than at “sunrise”?

hen we started our Grandies** meeting today there were only eight of us. More came straggling in a few at a time until we had doubled that to sixteen, plus pastor John Saint. That still left twelve of our members absent. The weather really affects who and how many attend. We are old, after all.

was feeling better today, so we stayed after Grandies and played a couple games of canasta with Bill and Karen. This coming Friday is game day at Leander UMC. We told Bill and Karen that we would bring the Fast Track game with us.

t was good to get home though. For lunch we reheated the stew from Monday and added rice and cauliflower.

eing out and about took more out of me than I thought. Right after lunch I took a nap and slept until four o’clock. I’ll be really glad when these shingles quit controlling my life.

lla and I played a couple games of Fast Track. We each won a round so it seemed like a good time to quit.

gain, no sunset so no sunset photo. However, it did turn warmer than expected even though it rained nearly continuously all day.

have tried unsuccessfully multiple times to get photos our the buds on our tree. I solved it by snapping off a small twig.

he Georgetown senior center was our only outing today. We has chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, green beans, mandarin oranges, and a little cup of gravy. Outside of Texas, does anybody else use gravy as a dipping sauce?
