2023 May 29 Monday Memorial Day in Round Rock Texas

I WOKE just before 6:30. I let Truck out to do his business. I got Ella’s coffee ready for when she wakes. And started working on the blog.

8:30 Ella was out of bed and ready for breakfast. 9:30 we got in the car and headed toward home. We arrived in time to have coffee with Friends at the apartments.

WE packed our ice chest with meat s, milk, and ice. Also bagged bread and buns.

AGENDA Monday May 29, 2023

WE were up at six and on the road by seven. For breakfast we drove through McDonald’s for McMuffins. We arrived at church about ten ’till eight. Ella got the coffee started and the snack tables organized. While she did that, I made preparation for the FROG adult Sunday school class.

ONCE Church was over we went back home changed clothes, fixed and ate lunch. We then gathered up a few things that we hadn’t taken with us to Adam and Leigha’s yesterday. Ella gathered up the dirty clothes hampers. We will need to do laundry at some point while at the kid’s.

WHILE she was doing that I sacked up the trash and set it out for the trash(wo)man who collects trash on Sunday evening. Because of that we will need to return home tomorrow to put the trashcan back into the apartment. I don’t want to pay a fine for having it left sitting in the hallway.

HAVING transferred what we needed to the car, we headed toward Adam’s. We made a detour through McDonald’s for chocolate shakes. Ella helped unload the car at the kid’s. We then say it on the deck with Truck the dog long enough for him to go potty.

The remainder of the day was spent relaxing.

MORNING COFFEE

THERE were eight for coffee this morning. My momma always said, “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.”  To which I reply, “”.

WE were packed up for our stay at Adams by eight thirty. I set everything, except our Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes, on the patio. It was easy to go out to the car carrying the sgtm clothes and hand them in the backseat. Them I opened the rear hatch and loaded it with the things lifted over the railing from the patio. As soon as coffee was over (10:15) we headed to Adam’s.

SHORTLY after ten thirty we arrived at the kid’s and began carrying things from the car. Truck the dog came to the door to greet us with no barking. After we got things settled into the bedroom I offered to let Truck out to the backyard but he wasn’t interested. After lunch Ella and I went out to the deck and Truck came with us.

LATER we came in to take a nap and he joined us on the bed.

LUNCH

SHRIMP SOUP. lots of tiny salad shrimp, chicken stock, vegetable stock, diced yellow red and green peppers, 1 stalk of celery finely diced including the leaves, and 1 package of ramen noodles without the seasoning packet. Very tasty if I do say so myself

THE 1920s gala was well attended by people in their costumes. I think that there was only one other man present. There was a small buffet with sandwiches and snacks.

ONCE we were done at the doctor’s we drove the short (1.5 miles) distance to the OTHG building. It was not quite 10:30 when we arrived. I made ice tea and coffee while I waited for everyone to show up. It’s Pizza Day.

WE have a new sign for the OTHG building

AS I notice the number of people wearing backpacks, I wonder how humanity survived in ages past without carrying half of their positions on their backs and all their memories in their phones?

I GREW up in a decidedly more primitive age where we didn’t have to carry a supply of drinking water with us everywhere we went. If you wanted to write with ink you dipped your pen into the ink bottle. A tablet was a bunch of papers sealed together on one edge with a cardboard back. A watch had one function, to tell time. It worked with gears and springs not electronics. The telephone was wired to a wall.

GRANDIES

We had a pleasant surprise today, Bill and Karen Kennedy came to Grandies. We haven’t seen them at Grandies, I believe, since sometime in 2020. Also in attendance were Anne Slager, Sandy Wentworth, Ella and I.  After the meeting and a game of canasta we went to a new Italian restaurant in Liberty Hill called Bella Sera. The food was good and, by ordering from the Lunch Special menu, reasonably priced. We were home by two o’clock.

MORNING COFFEE

THE great Coffee Group Civil War is under way. Today there were four of us at a table in the community room, as usual. However, some of the regular coffee group were sitting in chairs in the lobby area. Don’t ask me. I don’t know. I don’t want to know. I don’t like the negative tension that is going around.

I COULDN’T stay long anyway ’cause I had an appointment with a vampire to have blood extracted. I have an appointment with the urologist next week where I will learn the results of the test and what it means for the future.

I AM curious but not concerned. My past is forgiven and my future secure.

NIGHT 64° Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the evening. Lows in the upper 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

MORNING COFFEE

SANDY, Linda, Ella and I, Shirley(?), At one table with Ann sitting at a separate table. Apparently she really doesn’t like Shirley(? I don’t know if that’s her name.

SHORTLY after ten o’clock Ella and I drove to the Community Cupboard for a loaf of bread. We also received bananas, and four small (bigger than a golf ball, smaller than a tennis ball) potatoes. We were back home before our Walmart grocery delivery arrived at eleven ten. It was while putting the groceries away that I realized that I failed to add butter to the order. We’ve only a half of a stick left.

THE only thing on today’s agenda is at 5:00 this evening when we play board games. Tomorrow we may attend coffee at 9:00. I have a Urology appointment for fasting lab work at 10:20. Then in the evening at 5:00 there’s Mexican train.

WE did take our Fast Track game to the community room for Game Night. At one point there were five of us playing.

MORNING COFFEE

LATE this afternoon I was tasked with writing a “presented to” in some of books that will be given to graduates at Cross Tracks Church by our Grandies for Christ group. Only, as I opened the last book, I discovered that it was a used book with a dedication already in the book. We had to drive to a Book and Bible store and purchase an additional book.

SINCE we were out and about and it was approaching suppertime, we stopped at Wendy’s for a couple of combo meals. Ella had chicken nuggets and I had the ghost pepper chicken sandwich.

Once we were home I finished writing in the final gift book

IT was just a short time after completing the books that it was time to go to the Commons Room for karaoke.

I SANG a couple of times. For some reason I felt short of air while singing. Also, the songs that appeared on the screen had slightly different lyrics than I was familiar with.
