2019 August 12 Monday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Iowa
70° and H.U.M.I.D! It briefly briefly tipped over into 80° but the humidity made it feel much warmer.
It rained early this morning and the clouds haven’t quite left yet.
Francis, Sandy, Sue, Ella, and I were at coffee this morning. “Little” Francis was here for a while and left. A short time later his daughter, Theresa, arrived. She stayed with us for a little while them left also.
We arrived at the Grimes senior center around ten this morning. We quickly got a game of Fast Track going.
Ella won the first one. I won the second round and then left Joyce and Ella to play by themselves while I worked on my blogs and sermon.
This was one year ago today (August12, 2018). I spent six hours in the emergency room due to an allergic reaction to onions. Now I carry an EpiPen everywhere I go.
This huge flower was abloom outside the senior center window.
As I was checking a man into a camping spot, he voiced some concern about finding a spot suitable for his handicapped daughter. I asked if she had mobility issues. He replied that she has Down syndrome.
I told him that, as Santa, the time I spend with “special needs” people is one of my special joys.
Later, he brought her to Santa. I’m so glad that my work shirt it’s red, though the beard and the smile “sell” most children that I am Santa.
I visited with her for a little while and asked her what she is going to do while she is here.
Her eyes lit up and with a broad grin she said, “Go to the Fair*!”
I asked if she had been good. And then told her that I knew she was almost always good. She told me she was going to have a birthday party. (Dad said, “In September.) I asked how old she was going to be. She held up one finger and said, “20.” Dad said 21.
I thanked her for coming to see me and she left, still grinning. As they were leaving Dad was saying, “See, I told you that Santa was here and he’s always watching. So be good.”
God bless and g’nite
