Cross Tracks Church has instituted a program of Small Groups. These groups meet once a week at times that are convenient for the members. They gather to discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon and how it does or could affect their lives and the life of the church.
Our group meets on Thursday just prior to the OTHG*. There are four in this group: Kathy, Ann, Ella and I.
Kathy is its leader. She asks questions to get the discussion going and makes note of points that she feels are key. At some point the pastor wants to have all of the groups come together for a meal and discussion.
Over The Hill Gang* met today, as we have been doing every Thursday since we resumed meeting a month ago. I would estimate that there were forty plus people today. That is about half the number of pre-covid. Today’s lunch was spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. The couple with whom we have been playing Fast Track was not there today. No one else were playing games so we just came home.
Read: John 14:27. Peace I leave for you; my Peace I give to you. Not in the way that the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and let it not fear.
Think: The peace that the world offers is only the calm between conflicts. And often that time of peace is used to prepare for the next conflict. The world’s peace is a fearful time. The peace that Jesus gives is a peace that lives within us even in times of conflict. We have the assurance of life eternal so even death is not to be feared.
Pray: You, LORD, are my shepherd. I am never in need. You make me lie down in green pastures. You lead me beside peaceful waters. You renew my soul. You guides me along the paths of righteousness for the sake of your name. Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage. You prepare a banquet for me while my enemies watch. You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows. Certainly, goodness and mercy will stay close to me all the days of my life, and I will remain in my LORD’s house for days without end. Amen.
