Coffee at the Hills

WE took the applesauce cake, leftover from the Over The Hill Gang, up to share at coffee this morning. Only a few showed up: Andria, Dora, Ella, Sandy, and I. We were there for an hour and I can’t remember anything that was discussed.

WE came home and Ella said she was hurting then lay on the bed and did something on her phone. I think she even used it as a phone to talk to her sister Mary.

ABOUT eleven o’clock I found two Italian pork sausages in the freezer. I put them and a little water in the Instapot and pressure cooked them for ten minutes. Only I forgot about them for a half hour. They were thawed and cooked. I removed the sausages and cut them into small pieces. I used the electric kettle to quickly bring quart of water to boil. The Instapot was still hot so I poured the water into the pot and added some pasta. With the pot set on sauté it quickly brought the pasta to al dente. With the water drained, the sausage, pasta, and a can of pasta sauce went back into the pot. Even with the pot off it was hot enough to get the sauce bubbling. I grated some parmesan cheese into it and called Ella to the table.

After lunch we played three or four games of Fast Track.

ELLA went back to the bedroom and I worked on my blog project for a while. Then I went to check our mail box. Nothing there. Then it was time for a nap.

HEATHER sent a text inviting us to their place for Father’s Day on Sunday.

THIS evening Ella and I played Tri-Ominos this evening.

AS you know, we collect aluminum cans for recycling. Every Friday there is a happy hour on the community room. Ella and I don’t attend because it’s just too loud and not really our thing. However, after it was over, Ella went to collect the discarded cans.

WEATHER? We had some. It reached a high of one hundred degrees today. Then around eight o’clock this evening we had a great moving storm pass through. Lots of lightning right outside our windows. Flash. Boom. With barely a second between. The lightning map said 0.0 miles away. Heavy rain with wind. Something but it bedroom window that I thought might be hail. However I heard only the one. It may have been winds blown debris.

COMMENTARY
1. To command and teach these things that he had now been teaching him. Command them to exercise themselves unto godliness, teach them the profit of it, and that if they serve God they serve one who will be sure to bear them out.
2. To conduct himself with that gravity and prudence which might gain him respect, notwithstanding his youth:  Let no man despise thy youth; that is, give no man an occasion to despise thy youth. Men’s youth will not be despised if they do not by youthful vanities and follies make themselves despicable; and this men may do who are old, who may therefore thank themselves if they be despised
3. To confirm his doctrine by a good example: Be thou an example of the believers, etc. Observe, Those who teach by their doctrine must teach by their live, else they pull down with one hand what they build up with the other: they must be examples both in word and conversation. Their discourse must be edifying, and this will be a good example: their conversation must be strict, and this will be a good example: they must be examples in charity, or love to God and all good men, examples in spirit, that is, in spiritual-mindedness, in spiritual worship, – in faith, that is, in the profession of Christian faith, – and in purity or chastity. – Matthew Henry  (1706)

SIDE NOTE : Paul picked up Timothy on his second missionary journey (Acts 16:1). 1 Timothy was written 13-14 years later. If Timothy was sixteen years old, when Paul first worked with him, he would be somewhere “his late twenties to mid thirties.” Paul probably gave this command, because older men were considered to be wiser than men in their thirties, and he wanted to encourage Timothy to stand up for himself. – http://www.evidenceunseen.com/
