TOM AND ELLA JOURNAL

DAILY PROOF OF LIFE. Ella last seen wearing a rust colored top and off white peddle-pushers. Tom last seen wearing a grey McCoys tshirt and blue jeans. If you find them walking around in circles muttering, don’t be alarmed. There just old and have forgotten what they were about to do.
Coffee at the Hills
THERE was no one in the community room at nine o’clock. And there was only one pot of coffee made. Very unusual. Apparently the management office hasn’t received their shipment of coffee. Someone else must have used their own coffee to brew a pot. Ella had done the same thing on Monday because the office was closed for Juneteenth. With no one there, Ella and I didn’t stay long.
OVER THE HILL GANG
THE pulled pork which Ella and I donated for today’s OTHG lunch was perfectly served with a lite barbeque sauce on buns. There were condiments such as pickles, peppers, BBQ, and buffalo hot sauce. The meal was completed with baked beans, potato salad, mixed grapes, lime jello, and desserts aplenty. And there is still eight pounds of pulled pork in the freezer for another future meal.
THERE were thirty eight people at OTHG today. Not all ate with us. Some arrived later to join in games. I know that the usual games of Five Crowns, Bingo, and 42 were played and the conversation corner was active. There may have been other activities that escaped my notice. WHILE at OTHG I received a telemed call from my urologist/oncologist as a follow up from my cancer treatment. I had only good things to report. My next in person appointment with the oncologist is on August.
SHORTLY thereafter I received a call from Connect Hearing. My hearing aids arrived earlier than expected. I will go tomorrow to be fitted with them. I’m excited.
WITH the driving that I know I’ll be making in the next few days, I decided to fill up on gasoline. Ella had said she needed some Poligrip. So I let her out at u the door to Walmart pharmacy while I purchased gas at Murphy USA.
Coffee at the Hills part 2
WHEN we returned home after our stop at Walmart, we were just in time for the two o’clock coffee group. Still no coffee but they had treats. We didn’t stay long but we found out that one of our members, Don, had died two weeks ago and no one thought to tell his friends at the apartment. We’ve been asking what’s going on with him. We knew he had gone to the hospital for liver surgery. Apparently, while there, his kidneys failed.
BINGO
ABOUT 5:45 Ella went to the Hills’ community room to call bingo. She goes early to lay out the prizes and get her equipment plugged in. She uses an app on her smart phone to randomly call Bingo and a Bluetooth speaker to make it loud enough for everyone to hear. Tonight she was unable to get the speaker to connect. Once bingo was over and she was home we did some trouble shooting. That’s when she realized that she had been trying to connect the speaker to WiFi rather than Bluetooth.

Devotional
SCRIPTURE: Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. – James 1:27 NRSV.
COMMENTARY: “Observe, (1) It is the glory of religion to be pure and undefiled not mixed with the inventions of men nor with the corruption of the world. False religions may be known by their impurity and uncharitableness according to that of John, ‘He that doeth not righteousness is not of God neither he that loveth not his brother,‘ 1 John 3:10. But, on the other hand, a holy life and a charitable heart show a true religion. Our religion is not (says Dr. Manton) adorned with ceremonies, but purity and charity. And it is a good observation of his that a religion which is pure should be kept undefiled (2) That religion is pure and undefiled which is so before God and the Father. That is right which is so in God’s eye, and which chiefly aims at his approbation. True religion teaches us to do every thing as in the presence of God and to seek his favour, and study to please him in all our actions (3) Compassion and charity to the poor and distressed form a very great and necessary part of true religion: Visiting the fatherless and widow in their affliction. Visiting is here put for all manner of relief which we are capable of giving to others and fatherless and widows are here particularly mentioned, because they are generally most apt to be neglected or oppressed: but by them we are to understand all who are proper objects of charity, all who are in affliction. It is very remarkable that if the sum of religion be drawn up to two articles this is one–to be charitable and relieve the afflicted. Observe, (4) An unspotted life must accompany an unfeigned love and charity: To keep himself unspotted from the world. The world is apt to spot and blemish the soul, and it is hard to live in it, and have to do with it, and not be defiled but this must be our constant endeavour. Herein consists pure and undefiled religion. The very things of the world too much taint our spirits, if we are much conversant with them but the sins and lusts of the world deface and defile them very woefully indeed. John comprises all that is in the world, which we are not to love, under three heads: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life and to keep ourselves unspotted from all these is to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. (PRAYER:) May God by his grace keep both our hearts and lives clean from the love of the world, and from the temptations of wicked worldly men.” – Matthew Henry (Originally written in 1706)
