COFFEE AT THE HILLS
Today Andrea, Ella, Fran, Sandy and I were there for coffee. Ella and I stayed only twenty minutes because we needed to leave for my hearing aids appointment.
HEARING AIDS

WE were at Connect Hearing for just under 45 minutes while I received my new hearing aids and learned how to use them. They are Bluetooth enabled. They are connected to my smart phone and can function just like wireless earbuds. When receiving a call I can answer with the phone or by tapping the hearing aids.
THERE are Optional Programs selectable by tapping each tile on the phone’s screen. This allows me to preview the program. I can also press the + in the top right corner to add a program. The preloaded settings are: Restaurant, Television, Outdoors, Café, Live Music, Transportation.
THERE are controls on the phone app that can fine tune and customize the settings. With the Equalizer I can adjust Bass, Mid, and Treble as well as reduce noise, enhance speech, focus the mic, and adjust volume. They are rechargable via USBs.
OH YES! They make a big difference. They don’t give me super hearing. They don’t even quite give me normal hearing. But for the first time in many many years I can hear birds chirping.

HCCM CUPBOARD
BEFORE going home we stopped at Hill Country Community Ministries’ Community Cupboard. We weren’t looking for anything in particular. We found some things to take tomorrow evening and some treats for us.
Andy’s Frozen Custard
It was lunchtime and we had a hankering for ice cream. We drove through Andy’s and then parked in the shade and ate our hot fudge sundaes with roasted pecans and maraschino cherries on top. Okay, I know that it might not be considered the most nutritional meal. But it kept us from being hungry until suppertime.
DEVOTIONAL
• SCRIPTURE:
“Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.” – Proverbs 22:6 NRSV
• COMMENTARY:
“Here is, 1. A great duty enjoined, particularly to those that are the parents and instructors of children, in order to the propagating (growth) of wisdom, that it may not die with them: Train up children in that age of vanity, to keep them from the sins and snares of it, in that learning age, to prepare them for what they are designed for. Catechise (instruct) them; initiate them; keep them under discipline. Train them as soldiers, who are taught to handle their arms, keep rank, and observe the word of command. Train them up, not in the way they would go (the bias of their corrupt hearts would draw them aside), but in the way they should go, the way in which, if you love them, you would have them go. Train up a child according as he is capable (as some take it), with a gentle hand, as nurses feed children, little and often, Deuteronomy 6:7
2. A good reason for it, taken from the great advantage of this care and pains with children: When they grow up, when they grow old, it is to be hoped, they will not depart from it. Good impressions made upon them then will abide upon them all their days. Ordinarily the vessel retains the savour (taste) with which it was first seasoned. Many indeed have departed from the good way in which they were trained up; Solomon himself did so. But early training may be a means of their recovering themselves, as it is supposed Solomon did. At least the parents will have the comfort of having done their duty and used the means.” (the medium, method, or instrument used to obtain a result or achieve an end:) – Matthew Henry 1706. The words in parentheses are mine to translate the old English into more modern usage.
The rest of my day was taken in study, writing, enjoying the hearing aids as I watched shows and videos, and napping – can’t forget napping. 😁
