WE had just pulled into our parking space at home when I received a text message from Arik,
• “Good morning! We 4 kids are meeting at Interstellar BBQ at 12:30. Y’all are welcome to attend too. However be forewarned: there will likely be a line to enter the building that may take 30 minutes to an hour to just get inside.
• At 12:12 I sent the following to him, ” We are here and I’ll get us in line. How many will be in our party?”.
There were 16 of us when all had arrived. It was 1:20 when we had our food and were seated at tables outside. (100° but a huge fan blowing on us) We were there until 2:30.

FIFTEEN minutes was all it took us to arrive home. I lay on the bed to watch some YouTube videos. Around four-thirty I had a bowl of cereal so that I could take my supper pills (they must be taken with food). I spent about 45 minutes to an hour studying for next Sunday’s F.R.O.G. class. Then I lay back down for more YouTube. At eight-fifteen Ella woke me saying, “It’s time for bed, old man.” I’m not surprised that I slept. However, I’m very surprised that I slept that long.

DEVOTIONAL
SCRIPTURE:  “Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal. Instead, store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust don’t destroy and thieves don’t break in and steal. Your heart will be where your treasure is. – Matthew 6:19‭-‬21 GW

COMMENTARY:    Hypocrites! Few insults hurled at Christians is worse than to be call called a hypocrite. Certainly most of that sting is due to that fact that it is too true. We are, after all, flawed human beings saved by grace. In this passage of scripture Jesus commands (I’m sorry, did you think it was a suggestion?) … yes, he commands us to seek heavenly rewards above earthly ones. And yet we all too often make our short term and long term goals before consulting God for guidance.
Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “A person may plan his own journey, but the Lord directs his steps.” This idea is echoed in a non-scriptural Yiddish adage, ““If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” I suspect that rather than laughing, our plans, too often, sadden the heart of God. He has laid a golden Path, purchased with blood, for us to follow. And then he watches as we wander into the muddy paths of the world. – Thomas E Williams

PRAYER:  Gracious Father, King of the universe, we have once again list sight of the one true and perfect goal. Straighten and strengthen as we walk your path of light.  Let not the darkness of the world cast shadows on our path not stumbling blocks in our way. Amen.
