BIBLE STUDY
SCRIPTURE READING:  Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am¹ the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never² walk³ in darkness but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12 NRSV

STUDY:  1. Again we see Jesus using the words “I Am,” which is the name of God. Yahweh is the name associated with God the Father. In the conversation with Moses, then, God reveals God’s unique name: a name translated as “I AM.” “And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you” – Exodus 3:7–8, 13–14
2. The Greek word is a double negative, emphatically saying, “never, no never!”.
3. The Aramaic is “they will never be driven (pushed) by the darkness.”.

FULLER UNDERSTANDING:  “I am your God the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never no never be driven or pushed by the darkness but will have the light of life.”
