Only 9 days until Santa season at Lakeline Mall. Santa will be there beginning November 7th. Come sit with Santa and tell him your Christmas wishes.
CANASTA at OTHG: Anne, Nathern, Ella and I played cards today. This would have been Sandy’s last day with us before she moves. However, she was too busy with preparations for the move to be able to join us. Oh, yeah, Ella and I beat Anne and, bathroom.
LUNCH: We had our noon meal at Over The Hill. Charlie used leftover sloppy joes fixings to make a toasted cheese and meat sandwiches plus a lettuce and carrots salad. There was also ice cream.
NEWS: 1. Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica with extremely strong winds, causing power outages and road closures. The storm rapidly intensified because of warm ocean waters, becoming one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit Jamaica in history. Melissa is now moving towards Cuba and the Bahamas.
2. The Texas Attorney General is suing Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue for allegedly not properly warning about potential risks of using Tylenol during pregnancy. They claim the companies broke the law by saying Tylenol is safe for pregnant women without mentioning possible connections to neurodevelopmental disorders. Despite some studies suggesting a link between acetaminophen (found in Tylenol) and conditions like autism and ADHD, leading medical groups say there isn’t enough evidence to prove this.
3. In a recent study, the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration reported detecting two gravitational wave events with unique black hole spins. Gravitational waves are ripples in space-time caused by powerful events like black hole collisions.
The first event, GW241011, happened about 700 million light-years away and involved two black holes, one 20 times the mass of the Sun and the other six times. The bigger black hole in this event was spinning very fast.
The second event, GW241110, occurred 2.4 billion light-years away and included black holes 17 and eight times the mass of the Sun. The primary black hole in this event was spinning in the opposite direction of its orbit, a first of its kind observation.
LIGO’s detectors were able to make precise measurements of these events due to recent improvements, allowing for deeper understanding. These events are interesting because the black holes involved were significantly different in mass and had unique spins, suggesting they may have formed from previous black hole mergers.
